FLAIR SIM · Coming to X-Plane 12FLS 787-8

The Boeing 787-8, built for X-Plane 12. Its own displays, flight management, autoflight, aircraft systems and EFB, all built around how the real aircraft works.

The aircraft

The Dreamliner you've been waiting to fly in X-Plane.

The FLS 787-8 is FLAIR SIM's first aircraft: a Boeing 787-8 made for X-Plane 12 on Windows. From the flight deck displays to the electrical buses, its systems are modeled on how the real aircraft is flown, and what you see on the screens comes from them.

The FLS 787-8 flight deck: PFDs, navigation displays, EICAS and the mode control panel

01

A flight deck that comes alive

Captain and First Officer PFDs, navigation displays with a vertical situation display, EICAS, system synoptics and the standby instrument, all drawn by our own code and fed by the aircraft's systems.

From your SimBrief plan to the runway

Load your SimBrief route into the FMC, add the departure and arrival from your X-Plane nav data, and let LNAV and VNAV fly it, holds included. Two CDUs, one FMC, with RTE 1 and RTE 2.

EFB takeoff and landing performance pages
EFB: takeoff and landing performance · work in progress
03

Performance at your fingertips

The EFB knows every paved runway in your sim, custom scenery included. Enter wind, runway condition, NOTAMs and dispatch items, then send flaps, assumed temperature and reference speeds straight to the FMC.

Flight controls synoptic: stabilizer, elevators, rudder, rudder trim and flight control mode

Fly-by-wire, 787 style

The C*U pitch law holds your flight path when you release the column, keeps the speed you trimmed for, and protects against stalls, overspeeds and tail strikes.

Systems that respond.

Electrical, hydraulics, fuel, APU, anti-ice and fire protection react to what you do, and the EICAS tells you about it. Where X-Plane has no native model we write our own; where it does something well, we drive it.

21,000+lines of our own systems and display code
80+EICAS messages raised from live system states
4AC buses, any one generator can power them all
2independent CDUs sharing one FMC

Full specifications

01Flight deck displays
  • PFD, Captain and First Officer: flight mode annunciator, speed and altitude tapes, TCAS resolution-advisory cues on the vertical speed indicator.
  • Navigation display: MAP, MAP CTR and PLAN modes, vertical situation display, holding patterns, TCAS traffic and terrain.
  • EICAS: engine indications with thrust reference, reverser, gear, flap and trim; warnings, cautions, advisories and memos with master WARNING / CAUTION, cancel and recall.
  • System synoptics: electrical, hydraulic, fuel, air, doors, gear and flight controls, plus an electronic checklist.
  • Integrated standby flight display: attitude, airspeed and altitude, with 90-second alignment and attitude reset.
02Flight management
  • SimBrief import: set your username once on the CDU and load the OFP route into the FMC.
  • Procedures: SIDs, STARs and approaches with transitions, from the navigation data installed in X-Plane.
  • RTE 1 and RTE 2: ACTIVATE and EXEC, route copy, modifications held in MOD until executed or erased.
  • Route editing: discontinuities, DIRECT TO, waypoint insertion and deletion on the LEGS pages.
  • Holding patterns: built on the HOLD page and flown by LNAV with direct, teardrop and parallel entries.
  • Pages: PERF INIT, THRUST LIM, FIX INFO and progress.
03Autoflight
  • Mode control panel: A/P, F/D, A/T ARM, HDG / TRK SEL and HOLD, V/S and FPA, FLCH, ALT HOLD, LOC, APP, speed intervention and bank limit.
  • LNAV and VNAV: LNAV flies the route and holds; VNAV runs climb, cruise and descent, builds the descent path from the route constraints and supports DES NOW.
  • Thrust reference: TO, TO 1 and TO 2 derates, assumed temperature and climb derates, with automatic thrust-mode changes.
  • Architecture: our mode logic runs on top of X-Plane's autopilot, which we use as the servo layer.
04Aircraft systems
  • Primary flight controls: C*U pitch law in NORMAL with flight-path hold, turn compensation to 30° of bank and speed stability around the trim reference speed; stall, overspeed and tail-strike protection; NORMAL, SECONDARY and DIRECT modes with automatic reversion and the PFC disconnect switch; stabilizer offload, alternate pitch trim, stabilizer cutout and rudder trim, with their EICAS indications.
  • Electrical: four AC buses; any single engine generator, the APU or external power can feed all of them.
  • APU: spool-up, two APU generators and shutdown advisory.
  • Hydraulics: left, centre and right systems, with a ram air turbine that deploys automatically or manually and pressurises the centre system.
  • Fuel: pumps, crossfeed, balancing and jettison.
  • Ice detection: icing conditions from outside air temperature and visible moisture, driving engine and wing anti-ice in AUTO.
  • Navigation and fire: IRS alignment, engine and APU fire detection, and the fire test.
  • Pressurization: our own cabin-altitude model for the EICAS and the air synoptic.
05Electronic flight bag
  • Runway data: read from X-Plane's own airport files, every paved runway including custom scenery, with airport search and manual airport entry.
  • Takeoff and landing performance: wind components, runway condition, assumed temperature, flaps and V-speeds; landing distance and VREF.
  • NOTAMs, MEL and CDL: shortened runways, obstacles and dispatch items feed into the calculation.
  • COPY FMC DATA: sends flaps, assumed temperature and reference speeds to the FMC.
  • Logbook: out, off, on and in times.

The FLS 787-8 is in development and everything on this page may change before release. Performance and thrust figures come from FLAIR SIM's own models for simulation use only; they are not Boeing data and must not be used for real-world flight.
